The Fat Red Bird Dress Hacks - Peplum Top

I have been asked so many times "Why did you call your latest pattern 'The Dress' - doesn't it limit you?". This dress has been my staple ever since I started making for my kids, because it is so easily tweaked, changed, hacked - whatever you want to call it. Giving this pattern such a broad and open title shows the freedom this pattern gives you.

The Fat Red Bird Dress isn't just one single style, the design & concept can be the starting blocks for a variety of different styles.

Decrease the length of the skirt to make a peplum top, use knit fabrics and even take out the back opening, create a collar...there are a world of possibilities. So I am going to try and create a series of 'The Dress' hacks, kicking off with the peplum top.

Who's in?

So how do you create a peplum top hack with the Fat Red Bird Dress....well it's really tricky...are ready for it?

Halve the semi circle skirt length.

That was super hard wasn't it. Just make sure you follow the same curve as the bottom edge of pattern piece when cutting & that is all folks.

It should sit at the hip so if your kiddy is on the short side you may want to reduce it by another inch.

That's all folks...you can even use the gathered skirt tutorial & halve that skirt length too for another look.

Haven't got the Fat Red Bird Dress pattern yet? Thats OK, you can grab it right here
