The Fat Red Bird Dress Hacks - Quick Knit Hack

Although The Fat Red Bird Dress pattern is designed primarily for wovens I have made a bunch of them in knit fabrics too because lets be honest, how gorgeous are the knit fabrics available now. The main difference is to choose the dress pattern pieces with the 'Finished Bodice' size almost the same as the child's actual waist measurement. This will give you a nice trim fit.

The other thing to consider is using an overlocker to stitch all the seams as this will provide your garment with a bit more give. If you don't have an overlocker that's OK, just change your stitch to zig zag about a 1.5 width by 2 length generally works nicely.

Some knit fabrics can be a bit heavier than wovens and with the open back style of this dress, heavier fabrics can cause this to sag. Choose light weight knits or go for a lighter weight knit as the lining. You may even find adding 1 or 2 more snaps to close the back of the bodice may suit your knit fabric.

When it comes to making the skirt, use the pattern piece size that again corresponds to the bodice. You may need to lengthen the skirt slightly especially if your child is tall and skinny.

I don't usually top stitch my knit dresses, I just press and go - that is entirely up to you.

So that's it....EASY!!! Don't have The Dress pattern yet? You can grab it HERE
